HOW TO PLAY PUNK GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS

In this course, I'm going to teach you everything you need to know to get started playing punk style guitar. Some beginner knowledge of how to play guitar is recommended, but not totally necessary. This course consists of twelve short, easy-to-digest, video classes which are rough 5-10 minutes long each. The classes will start with covering some basic punk rhythm techniques like power chords, strumming patterns, barre chords and more. From there we will progress to some basic punk lead guitar techniques like bends and octaves. By the end you will know a variety of techniques for playing everything from classic punk and hardcore up to modern punk and grunge. The goal of this course is to give you a wide variety of knowledge so that you can play practically any punk style song .
I’ve been a performing rock musician for almost 30 years, so I will use my experience to give you the knowledge and theory that I have acquired, while avoiding the pitfalls I encountered as a young self-taught guitarist. 1. Introduction To Punk Guitar & Power Chords
In this lesson we will cover a brief introduction to punk guitar along with how to play and use different types of power chords.
2. Strumming
In this lesson we will learn different types of strumming used in punk music and when to apply them.
3. Octaves
In this lesson we will learn how to play octaves as a rhythm and lead technique and how to use them in key with a song.
4. Barre Chords
In this lesson we will learn two types of barre chords commonly used in punk music and how they can shape the sound of a song.
5. Pick Slides, Dive Bombs & Alt Picking Slides
In this lesson we will learn transitionary techniques like pick slides, dive bombs and alternate picking slides, and how to use them.
6. Open Chords
In this lesson we will learn major and minor open chords, their characteristics and how they are used.
7. Rhythm Techniques
In this lesson we will learn 3 common rhythm techniques: pinky accents,chord slides and arpeggios.
8. Double Stop Bends
In this lesson we will learn one of the most common punk guitar lead techniques: double stop bends and how to play them in key.
9. Atonal Leads
In this lesson we will learn how to incorporate out of key notes into a lead to create a discordant sound using Black Flag’s song Jealous Again as an example.
10. Melodic Leads
In this lesson we will learn two ways that melodic leads are used including examples from the Clash and Nirvana.
11. Drop D Tuning
In this lesson we will learn Drop D Tuning and ways to use it in punk music.
12. Learning A Full Punk Song
In this lesson we will learn how to play “God Save The Queen” by the Sex Pistols incorporating the techniques we learned in the course..
